2022 – 2023 Concert Series

As we leave the challenges of these past two years behind, we have planned a season that offers the flash of the movies, our wonderful state of Texas, an iconic jazz-rock band, the most well-known symphony in the world, and the first jazz-classical composer who brought us a very blue rhapsody! We are only one season out from fifty years serving the Victoria community and we have a wonderful lead-up season ahead that you won’t want to miss! In a nutshell, the names tell it all!

John Williams — Texas Country Reporter — CHICAGO — Beethoven’s Fifth — Gershwin!

John Williams’ name is synonymous with Star Wars, Harry Potter, and over 100 other film scores and what could be better than an all-Williams spectacular? Who in Texas doesn’t know the Texas Country Reporter and Bob and Kelli Phillips? They are coming to Victoria in a musical tribute to Texas and it’s rich history with both original and American musical favorites. Our annual pops brings the music of the iconic jazz-rock band CHICAGO led by longtime member Jason Scheff and our spring will bring us classical guitarist Ana Vidovic in a concert playing the famous Beethoven Fifth Symphony! We then will close out with the heir to Beethoven’s Fifth, the First Symphony of Johannes Brahms along with George Gershwin’s two masterpieces, An American in Paris and the Rhapsody in Blue with Martin James Bartlett on the piano!

It has been an honor for us to serve the Victoria community for 49 seasons and we look forward to breaking 50 and beyond with the great symphonic masterworks of all time, the great film composers, gems from the pops era, spooky music, and outdoor jazz! Come and help us to enrich our community through the musical lens of the live symphonic orchestra by partnering with your hometown band, the Victoria Symphony Orchestra!

Many Thanks To Our Season Supporters

FAQs

Welcome to the Victoria Symphony, and the world of classical music!  If you are attending your first symphony performance, you may want answers to some of our frequently asked questions:

Today's standards for business formal dress or business casual dress are both acceptable for concerts.  Jeans are acceptable but shorts and t-shirts are discouraged.

Tickets may be purchased in person, by mail, telephone or online.  See our “Contact Us” form at the bottom of the page for directions and our phone/ fax numbers.

The Victoria Symphony performs at the Victoria Fine Arts Center located at 1002 Sam Houston Drive, 77901 on the corner of Airline and Sam Houston.  For parking, enter the front lot on Sam Houston Drive.  Additional parking is located next to the stadium off Miori Drive.

We suggest you arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the concert is scheduled to begin, as Victoria Symphony concerts begin promptly at the announced starting time. Ticket holders who come late will not be seated in the hall until after the conclusion of the first work on the program.

You applaud to greet the Concertmaster, the violinist who sits in the first chair of the first row of the Orchestra, when he or she comes onstage. You applaud again a few moments later when the Conductor comes onstage. You do not applaud again until the end of each piece of music, and the audience does not applaud between movements of a piece.

Program length varies, but a typical master series concert performance lasts about two hours, including one intermission.  Symphonic Spooktacular lasts approximately one hour.

Yes, but the Victoria Symphony requests that you turn off all cell phones, pagers, beeping watches, and other electronic devices before the performance begins - and that you check to see that they are again turned off after the intermission, before the second half of the performance begins. No photo-taking or use of recording devices is allowed at any time.

No. One of the great joys of going to a Victoria Symphony concert is being introduced to a great piece of music you've never heard before, or listening to a superb performance of a piece you haven't heard in years.

It is very likely that you will recognize parts of many symphonies, concertos and overtures.  Music written by the great classical composers is often used in movie soundtracks, television shows, and commercials.
